What can you do for less than $2 to brighten a little girl's Christmas this year?
I'm glad you asked. Meet Safyre.
In 2013, she was the sole survivor of an arson attack that burnt down her house and murdered her father David, sister Layah aged three, Michael, aged 2, and 11-month-old Donovan.
When firefighters got inside they found Safyre clutched to her father’s chest as he tried to shield her from the flames.
After months in hospital to treat burns on 75 per cent of her body and surgeries including losing her hand and foot, she survived and now lives with her father’s sister.
Despite all her challenges, she’s a joyful little girl who loves Christmas, and this year her friends and family want to make it extra special.
They’re appealing for people all across the world to add her to their Christmas lists and help her collect cards from all over.
So far people have really delivered, with cards promised from as far afield as Hawaii, Belgium and China.
I read Safyre's story, stopped what I was doing, addressed the nearest Christmas card to her and walked my butt to the mail box.
And you can, too.
I wonder how many of my friends would take the time to write and send Safyre a Merry Christmas card that she can hang on her card tree....Safyre P.O. Box 6126Schenectady NY 12306
