So here we go on the "biblical definition of the family unit":
- Marriages must be in the same faith
- Not only should a wife be subordinate (Ephisians 5:22), but she must prove her virginity lest she be stoned (Deuteronomy 22:20-21)
- Marriages should be arranged
- If a woman's husband dies without having had a son, she must marry his brother and have intercourse with him until they have a son (Mark 12:18-27)
- Many of the "men of god" were not only married but had at least one concubine (Abraham, Caleb, Solomon)
- God frequently blessed polygamists (Esau, Jacob, Gideon, David, Solomon, Behshazzarr)

ReplyDeleteI would like to help you out a bit.... you are aware that Dan Cathy is a Christian, right? Christians don't abide by the old testament law. They follow the part from that guy Jesus. And the only time you mention a passage from Jesus' time (Mark) you took it out of context because that line was asked by the "Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection".........so whether you are being dishonest or are just ignorant of the topic i don't really know, but just thought you should know the truth so you aren't discredited... take care
ReplyDeleteExcellent! Thank you Vigilo!
ReplyDelete"Dishonest or are just ignorant" - what a great ice breaker in starting a conversation. Catchy.
So, when you say "Christians don't abide by the old testament law" are you saying "Christians" only read half the Bible?
And since you mention "they follow the part from that guy Jesus" - can you please point out to me when JESUS says homosexuality is a sin? I've never been able to find that specific part. The part when JESUS is attributed with saying homosexuality is a sin. I so look forward to your response. I've always wanted to find that quote in the Bible - especially since you mention that "Christians" follow the part from "that guy."
Again - I'm not looking for attribution to anyone other than Jesus, since you specifically say "Christians" follow the part from "that guy."
Looking forward to your info. It will be very, very helpful to many.
To further your understanding, followers of Christ endeavor to read the whole bible. Just reading the words and pulling scriptures out of the original context confuses a lot of people who don't endeavor to know fully how everything links. The New Testament introduces Jesus as the Messiah or "savior" who came not to abolish the law (first half of the bible), but rather to fulfill it. This simply means that taking on Jesus' characteristics, or spirit, leads one to understand why he created the law in the first place. Having His spirit is the starting point, without it its near impossible to understand what you need to. From there you can go on to understand further how homosexuality does not fit into the purpose of man.
ReplyDeleteAlso, we need understand that the men who followed Christ wrote what He said, they were letters to various churches outlining the things Jesus taught them since everyone could not physically be there. That being said here is a scripture outlining the divide created when you're not lead by His spirit:
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
[26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.]
